Ready 4 Reading Bookshelf

60% of poverty-level families do not have children’s books in the home. How can a parent encourage a love of reading if there are no books to share? Ready 4 Reading is addressing this by stocking bookshelves with gently used books and placing them in clinics, community centers, and schools around town. Families will read the books as they wait or they may take them home from classrooms/schools. These Ready 4 Reading Bookshelves will:

  • Encourage parent-child bonding and language interactions with books
  • Involve community members in this early literacy effort through making book donations to underserved children
  • Enhance the services of organizations serving as bookshelf hosts by providing access to books for the families they already serve
  • Heighten community awareness of the importance of reading to and by young children

How you can help!

  • Host a book donation drive
  • Encourage your families to support Ready 4 Reading Bookshelves in the community and schools
  • Offer to be a Ready 4 Reading Bookshelf Volunteer
